The seniors weren’t the only United side to experience joy on the road today, as our Under-18s beat Newcastle United 5-1 in the north-east. The Reds raced ahead through Gabriele Biancheri’s double, before James Scanlon – fresh from scoring for Gibraltar in midweek – made it three just before the break. Guy Bloomer pulled one back for the Magpies, but substitutes Amir Ibragimov, with a penalty, and Jim Thwaites added further efforts to make it a thoroughly convincing victory – our third from three games so far this term.
