Alejandro Garnacho's Community Shield opener against Manchester City has been voted as our men's Goal of the Month for August 2024.
The 82nd-minute deadlock-breaker unfortunately wasn’t enough for victory on the day, after Bernardo Silva’s late leveller forced a penalty shootout that City triumphed in, but the goal has retrospectively been appreciated by our fans as United’s best in the new season’s first month.
It means Alejandro takes the prize for the first time since his epic overhead kick versus Everton at Goodison Park claimed the spoils of November 2023’s vote.
This month’s result also ensures that our last two Goal of the Month winners have come in Manchester derbies at the national stadium, after Kobbie Mainoo’s FA Cup final winner at the end of last season was favoured for May’s prize.
Zirkzee’s heroics in this term’s Premier League opener against Fulham finished runner-up in our latest poll (32%), with Amad’s contender from Brighton’s Amex Stadium coming third (22%).
Earlier today, the latter was announced as our Player of the Month for August, having received the most selections in that vote, following his impressive start to the 2024/25 campaign.
Thank you to everyone who got involved in deciding the winners of the August awards.
