Alex Telles: It's a new moment for me

A year on from the day he signed for Manchester United, defender Alex Telles has explained how this season represents a fresh start for him in more ways than one.

The full-back, who signed for the Reds from FC Porto 12 months ago, made 24 appearances in his first campaign at Old Trafford, although Luke Shaw was the established first-choice on the left-hand side of defence.

Telles suffered a setback over the summer, picking up an injury in training which ruled him out of the first month of 2021/22, although an issue for Shaw meant he started the recent UEFA Champions League clash with Villarreal.

Watch Alex's brilliant volley against Villarreal again.

And, sporting a new haircut from the top-knot style we have become accustomed to, Telles struck a brilliant and crucial volley to equalise against the Spaniards on the hour mark, with Cristiano Ronaldo going on to score a late winner to get United off the mark in Group F.

The 28-year-old sees the trim as part of him turning over a new leaf at United and he’ll be one of the players working hard in Manchester over the international break as he looks to add more goals and assists to his Reds tally.

“It's a new moment for me. I always had short hair like this,” the Brazilian told club media.

“I actually let it grow the last two years. But I felt it was time to change again. A new chapter, new energy, because I am back after being out for two months due to an injury.

“It wasn't an easy time, so I wanted to change my look for my return.

“Coming back with my new look and a goal was very important. I'm very happy. I scored my first and already my mind is on scoring the second, and getting plenty of assists, playing loads of games, and always giving it my all for United.”
