Congratulations to Manchester United forward Antony, whose Europa League tie-winning strike against Barcelona in February has been voted our men’s Goal of the Season.
A phenomenal number of votes were received and the competition was unsurprisingly fierce, with four goals quickly emerging as the leading contenders, sharing almost 70 per cent of the result.
Watch Antony's winner against Barcelona: our Goal of the Season for 2022/23.
Marcus Rashford’s sensational length-of-the-pitch effort against Burnley in the Carabao Cup finished fourth in the voting and Alejandro Garnacho’s last-gasp winner at Fulham’s Craven Cottage is third.
Jadon Sancho’s composed finish in the barnstorming win over Liverpool at Old Trafford finished second, narrowly behind Antony’s winner: the decisive effort against Barcelona in M16.
While the quality of a goal is obviously a huge factor in deciding this award, the circumstances and emotions around it are also important influences. Watch it again in the video above.
Fans who participate in our Goal of the Month polls might know that Antony has won four of the those this season.
The Brazilian earned it in August with his debut strike against Arsenal and he retained the prize in October following his long-range effort in the defeat at Manchester City.
February's goal to defeat Barcelona added a third success, before he made it a quadruple with his stunning finish against Real Betis. He could yet win a fifth, with May's poll to come next week.
Thank you to everybody who voted, and congratulations on your award, Antony.
