James Overy is in line to become only the second Manchester United player to represent Australia's senior team.
The full-back has been included in Tony Popovic's squad for friendlies against Venezuela and Colombia, after impressing at the Under-20 World Cup.
With only Mark Bosnich turning out for the Socceroos whilst with United in the past, there is a fantastic opportunity for the 18-year-old, with Popovic explaining why he has decided to take a closer look at the promising defender.
The Venezuela game takes place in the early hours of Saturday morning, UK time, in Houston, Texas.
“We have good contacts at Man U,”
Popovic, the former Crystal Palace centre-back, told the Sydney Morning Herald. “We know what he's doing in training.
”We know how much he trains, how much he trains in the first team.
“He's getting games in the Under-18s, the Under-21s.
”I just thought he's worth having a look at, and let's see.“
Bosnich, like Overy, received his maiden call-up before he had made a senior appearance.
In 1990, he came on as a substitute for the Socceroos in a friendly game against Russian club side Torpedo Moscow.
The keeper made his Reds debut a few months later, keeping a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw against Wimbledon at Old Trafford.
After three games in that first spell as a youngster, he later returned to the club in 1999 to replace Peter Schmeichel, arriving on a free transfer from Aston Villa.
Overy will be hoping to follow in Bosnich's footsteps by getting some minutes, with the aim of forcing himself into the squad for next year's World Cup finals.
