Savage secures loan move

Manchester United midfielder Charlie Savage has joined League One side Forest Green Rovers on loan for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

The 19-year-old will get his first taste of regular senior football at the Gloucestershire club, who appointed former Everton favourite Duncan Ferguson as their new head coach on Thursday.

The loan was agreed last week with Forest Green selected as the ideal destination for Savage to develop and hone his talents while being closely monitored and supported by United staff.

Forest Green were promoted to the third tier for the first time in their history last season and are currently in 24th place in League One, although they are only four points from safety.

United's transfers in and out: January 2023

Savage has appeared 17 times for United's Under-21s so far in 2022/23, making four of those appearances during our run to the Papa Johns Trophy round of 16, where we were eventually knocked out by Bolton Wanderers, who also play in League One.

He has captained the young Reds on three occasions this term, scoring once, against Crystal Palace in August.

Charlie has one competitive appearance under his belt for the senior Reds, appearing as a substitute during the closing stages of a 1-1 draw with Young Boys in the Champions League, back in December 2021.

He was part of Erik ten Hag's squad for the summer tour of Thailand and Australia last July, and was also involved in the recent friendlies against Cadiz and Real Betis, as part of the winter training camp in Spain.

Everybody would like to wish Charlie the best of luck this term, as we follow his progress at The Bolt New Lawn Stadium.
