Ten Hag confirms keeper selection

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has confirmed goalkeeper Altay Bayindir will start in goal for the Reds against Newport County this weekend in the Emirates FA Cup.

The Turkey international is yet to feature, following his summer switch from Fenerbahce, and was handed the no.1 jersey after his arrival.

Andre Onana has been first choice, with the former Internazionale man starting 30 times so far this season. However, he is currently away on international duty with Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Erik was posed the question of who would replace him at today's pre-match press conference, confirming his intentions to start Altay on Sunday.

“Yeah, he [Bayindir] will be in the goal,” responded the boss, when quizzed on the topic earlier this afternoon.

“I think it is clear what we can expect from him. He waits for his chances but he is experienced.

”He played for a big club in Turkey where there is big pressure.“

Altay made 145 appearances for the Turkish side during his four-year stay and captained them on many occasions, before opting for pastures new in England earlier this year.

Ten Hag also added how Bayindir's past experiences stand in him in good stead ahead of our trip to Rodney Parade this weekend.

“He knows how to deal with it and we were all very convinced when we brought him into this club,” added Ten Hag.

“That is not a decision for just one man.

”We are looking forward to Sunday. Altay is very motivated, of course, and he can't wait for this moment.

“Now, this is his moment.”
