Ten Hag: It was an entertaining cup tie

Erik ten Hag had his first taste of FA Cup action in Manchester United's 3-1 win over Everton on Friday (6 January).

Marcus Rashford's influential performance, that saw him set up two and score the third goal, helped the Reds secure our spot in the fourth round of the competition.

Speaking with several broadcasters at full-time, including ITV, BBC Match of the Day, TalkSPORT, and our very own MUTV, Ten Hag gave a comprehensive analysis of the win.

Here are some key comments from the boss after the Reds' latest triumph at Old Trafford...

Ten Hag: The audience was the winnervideo

OLD TRAFFORD CROWD WERE THE WINNERS

“It was really competitive, both teams challenged each other, it was a good tempo. I think the audience is the big winner of this cup game. It was exciting to watch. A lot of tempo, a lot of opportunities for both sides and I am happy that we won this game, I think it was also justified. I think their (Everton's) performance was really good. They played really brave, on the front foot, go forward, and that is why I think the audience got the perfect game. It was a good show. It was entertaining. And once again we are happy we won, but I think the performance from Everton was good as well.”

RASHFORD CAN SCORE EVEN MORE

“It is himself [the reason why he is flourishing this season]. He has the skills, I am supporting him, I am motivating him, that is clear. I think I put him on the right position on the pitch, but to be fair he can play across the whole front line and in some cases behind. We can use him also as a tactical weapon, and he is scoring from every position. If he keeps this focus, I am convinced he will score even more goals. If he keeps investing in training, investing in the games, I'm sure - I'm convinced - he can keep the goals coming in this run.”

UNITED SUBS IMPRESS AGAIN

“It's not all the time the same substitutes we bring in, or the same starting XI, but what I really like in this moment is that we are working as a squad, not only as a team. All the players are ready to play, they are prepared to come on the pitch to help out, or they score goals, but also to help out in the midfield and defending, to defend when we are up - luckily we are not often down to react to that - but also you see that the players are ready to come on and to help out; fighting, supporting with conviction to get the best result and that process I am really happy [with].”

ANTONY BACK IN THE GOALS

“I think it was a great goal, but of course great action from Marcus Rashford on the left side, we don't often reward the movement from players. Also with Anthony Martial today, a lot of good movements, he makes space for other players on the pitch and that was also [the case] with the movement of Antony. With the first goal he was in the right spot, but it was great movement to be there.”

TROPHY AMBITIONS

“Manchester United is always aiming for trophies. We are going for that, but you can't force this, we have to wait for it. We have to focus on the next game and not think about trophies. It's far ahead, we have to work on the team, we have to work on the progress and development, and that is the only focus point at this moment. I think we have that [ability to win trophies]. We can fight, we can fight back if it's necessary, and that is important. We can act composed and stay composed, so we have resilience. I think we have a lot of good skills in the team to win games so we can also win prizes.”

A LOOK AHEAD TO CHARLTON

“We don't have time in this moment to train, we do this weekend but it's all about freshness, we take care for that. Many games are following up and they (our international players) had a heavy programme with many in the World Cup, so it's about freshness. Also we have to give players time to relax, to recover, so that they can go again and that is also for Tuesday. Recover, and go again.”
