Pellistri exclusive: Cavani praise was unbelievable

Facundo Pellistri has spoken of his excitement at joining up with his new team-mates at Manchester United, in particular fellow countryman Edinson Cavani.

In an exclusive first interview with club media, which you can watch in full below, the 18-year-old said it was ‘unbelievable’ to hear Cavani had praised him in his own chat with us, while Argentinian legend Juan Roman Riquelme has also spoken highly of him.

Pellistri, who completed his transfer from Penarol on deadline day, also acknowledged the impact former coach – and Reds cult hero – Diego Forlan has had on his journey to the Premier League.

“Diego was very important in my career, he was my coach. He advised me a lot,” said Facundo. “We all know how Diego was as a player, but he’s a very good person too.

“It’s unbelievable and fantastic to hear such comments from the players they were, and are. Cavani is going to be a team-mate of mine. So I’m very glad and happy to hear those comments.

“Cavani is a top player and I think he will be a great player here also.”

Pellistri joined up with the first team at the Aon Training Complex on Wednesday.

He has also been included in the Reds’ 25-man A list squad for the Champions League group stages, which begin in Paris next Tuesday, and our young South American can’t wait to get started.

“[I’m] very excited, because the Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world. To play in that league is fantastic,” he added.

“When you are a kid, you don’t imagine [playing in the Champions League], but now it’s real. I’m very happy for this opportunity.”

For those who haven’t seen him play, Facundo has described himself as a ‘fast player, who likes to have the ball.’

He’s already identified areas in which he wants to adapt his game, and believes playing under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and coaches Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna will only be a benefit in the long run.

“I want to improve, for example, in shooting, passing the ball. All those things that make you better on the pitch.

“There are lots of people in charge of you to help. I think that I should learn from my team-mates and the coach, because it’s the first time I’m here in England. I will need help from them.”

The new season is here. Our 2020/21 home, away and third kits are available now from United Direct.
