Maguire returns from England duty through injury

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has returned from international duty with England due to injury.

The 31-year-old started Saturday night's prestige friendly against Brazil at Wembley Stadium and wore the captain’s armband after skipper for the night Kyle Walker was forced off early on.

Maguire played for 67 minutes against the Selecao before he was replaced by Brighton’s Lewis Dunk.

Moments later, Maguire's United team-mate Kobbie Mainoo proudly made his England debut as he entered the action alongside fellow Academy graduate Marcus Rashford.

It was confirmed by The FA earlier on Sunday evening that Harry has sustained an injury, and he will not feature in Tuesday's match against Belgium.

Ex-Red Sam Johnstone and Man City’s Walker have also withdrawn from the squad, with James Trafford and Rico Lewis stepping up from the Under-21s.

Maguire will now return to Carrington to be assessed by United’s medical team.

It remains to be seen whether Maguire will be available for United’s next match, against Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday evening (20:00 GMT kick-off).

Erik ten Hag may provide an update during his pre-match press conference at the end of the coming week.
