Kobbie Mainoo has said Manchester United's job this season is not yet done, following our 3-2 win against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The win – secured by Mainoo's strike at the Stretford End, after Liverpool scored two second-half goal to level the game – confirmed our place in next season's UEFA Champions League, but our no.37 insists his colleagues are certainly not looking to take our foot off the accelerator.
“We're just looking forward,”
the 21-year-old told Sky Sports after the game. “We still need to finish the season strongly.
”This is not enough for us. We just want to keep on winning, winning, winning.“
It makes it three victories in three for United, following three-point collections against Brentford and Chelsea. It was Carrick's 10th league win since he came in back in January.
Mainoo reserves plenty of credit for the head coach, with regards to his own strong 2026 so far, which has culminated in him signing a new contract with United, which will keep him at the club until 2031.
“He's played a huge part in it [Mainoo's recent performances],”
Kobbie admitted. “I mean, the confidence he puts in, not just me, but all the players, you know?
”You want to follow him, you want to fight for him, you want to die for him on the pitch, and I feel like that's what we've shown today.“
The midfielder's goal came just over two years after he scored his first-ever senior goal at Old Trafford, at the same end, against the same opponent – providing a perfect moment for reflection, even amid the chaos of clinching a winner against one of our biggest rivals.
“I've not been around the goals too much,”
he continued. “But I'm happy to be around it in this game, you know, such a special occasion, and such a special fixture.
”I saw a couple of my family members [in the crowd]. Yeah, it's a blessing to be able to play here, to be able to score here. It's unbelievable.
“And I used to sit there [where his family were], when the Academy used to give us tickets, I used to sit there as well, so now I'm just so blessed to be in this position.
”I used to dream of times like this, so [younger Kobbie] would have been over the moon.“
