Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez says the Reds were not clinical enough against Arsenal, as Erik ten Hag’s side fell to a narrow 3-2 loss at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
United took the lead in the first half, through Marcus Rashford, before Eddie Nketiah levelled things before the break.
In the second-half, after Martinez's header - and first goal for United - had cancelled out Bukayo Saka's strike, Nketiah’s clinched all three points for the Gunners with a last-minute finish.
Following the defeat, our Argentinian defender expressed his frustration.
“For sure we are disappointed,”
he said in an interview with MUTV.
“We want to win the game, but we didn't, and we are very disappointed.
“But we are strong, we have to keep fighting and we go for the next one.“
Martinez believes the Reds had opportunities to inflict damage on the Gunners, and also rued United’s lapse in concentration for Mikel Arteta’s side clinching a late win.
“I think we can win the game today,”
he said. “But this is about details. If you are not [focused on] every detail, you can't win.
“We have to be strong, and we have to learn also from every experience. [It] cannot happen again, for sure it cannot happen again.
“We have to be really focused on the game and we have to kill the game. We have to win.”
Lisandro was also pleased to open his account for the Reds in the match at the Emirates, but says the defeat is more important to him.
The centre-back is now looking ahead to our next match, Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg on Tuesday.
“For sure, it is a dream to score my first goal here in Manchester United,”
he said. “I am really happy with that, but in the end it was not the result that I want. We have to keep going.
”[We] don't have a day to be sad,” he added.
“We have to go tomorrow and change. We have to go for the next one.“
