11 incredible stats from Southampton 2 United 3

Manchester United put in a superb performance to come from two goals down to beat Southampton on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds were inspired by a second-half masterclass from Edinson Cavani, who scored two and set one up, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side overpowered the Saints.

Our Premier League victory threw up some quite incredible stats about Cavani and Bruno Fernandes - who netted our opener at St Mary’s Stadium - while it also meant we set a new club record. Here's a handy guide…

90 in 20: Southampton 2 United 3video

CLUB-RECORD RUN

Ole’s men have now won eight consecutive away games in the top-flight. That’s more than any other side in our history, with the previous record of seven being set in 1993.

BATTLING BACK AGAIN

Sunday's win was the 10th time we’ve come from behind to beat Southampton in the Premier League. That equals the record set earlier this term, when overturning a deficit to win against Newcastle United also for a 10th time in the division's history.

NEVER-SAY-DIE ATTITUDE

The Reds are the first side in Premier League history to win four consecutive away games after trailing in each match. We came from behind to beat Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle, Everton and Southampton.

FLYING STARTS

We’ve won our first four away matches of a top-flight season for only the third time in our history - and for the first time in the Premier League. We previously did it in 1914/15 and 1985/86.

FABULOUS FERNANDES

Bruno became the fourth Red to score in five consecutive away Premier League games, after super strikers Ruud van Nistelrooy (2002 & 2003), Robin van Persie (2013) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (2017).

MR CONSISTENT

Fernandes has now scored in nine of the club's last 10 Premier League away matches.

SETTING THE STANDARD

Since making his Premier League debut in February, nobody has registered more goals (15) or assists (10) in the division than Bruno.

Solskjaer: I love the way Cavani movesvideo

SUPER SUB

Cavani is just the second United player to be involved in three or more goals as a Premier League substitute. The other? A certain Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who scored four off the bench in an 8-1 victory over Nottingham Forest in 1999.

LEADING THE LINE

Only Kevin Phillips has scored more than once as a substitute at an older age in the Premier League than 33-year-old Cavani.

FOLLOWING IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS

Cavani is only the second United player to both score and assist in the Premier League after being introduced from the bench in an away game. The other was Ruud van Nistelrooy against Charlton Athletic in September 2002.

RAVING ABOUT RASHY

Marcus Rashford registered another league assist on Sunday, bringing him up to four this term. Only Harry Kane, Jack Grealish and Kevin De Bruyne can boast better numbers as providers in 2020/21.
