De Gea: It's a perfect day

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has called United's 2-0 win over Leeds United at Elland Road a “perfect day.”

The Spaniard reached 400 Premier League appearances for the Reds during the clash with the Yorkshire side, becoming the first non-British player to reach the tally.

David celebrated the landmark by keeping yet another clean sheet, and was thrilled to come away with an important 2-0 win from Elland Road.

Following the match, the Spaniard spoke to MUTV and Sky Sports, reflecting on his personal landmark and the team performance.

“It's unbelievable. Today was not about the 400 games, today was about winning,” he said. “But, we won the game and [with reaching] 400 games for me, it's a perfect day.

”We knew with the first goal, keeping a clean sheet and scoring the first goal would be massive for us. A perfect cross from Luke Shaw, who is playing really well. And Rashy [Marcus Rashford] is on fire. A lot of goals, helping the team, running, pressing. I think he is playing at the top level.

“[It was a] massive, massive goal for us and after that, I think we controlled the game. We score another couple of goals. So, [it was a] perfect day.”

The home side did provide De Gea with some tests throughout the tie. The best of those fell to Wilfried Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville, who both forced the David into action.

After the game, the Spaniard didn't want to focus on individual praise, applauding the way the team came together to seal the win.

“They have 10 to 15 minutes where they create a couple of chances,” he explained. “They put pressure on us, which was not easy. It is not easy here.

”I made a couple of good saves and then the team scored a great goal. The atmosphere here, with the fans was amazing, so [it was] a special win and I am so, so happy.“

United will travel to the Nou Camp this Thursday, facing Barcelona in the Europa League. Ahead of this clash, De Gea is urging the Reds to continue the form we have displayed in the last few matches

“Of course. It's going to be a big game, Barcelona. They are top of the league in Spain, so it is going to be a nice game. Let's keep the momentum, play our best game and try to win at the Camp Nou.”
