United Women’s FA Cup opponents confirmed

Manchester United will face Championship side Sunderland in the fourth round of this season’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

The Reds were paired with the winner of the tie between Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland during last month’s draw, with the latter triumphing 1-0 in the delayed third-round contest on Sunday.

It means that a trip to the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground awaits Marc Skinner’s side, for a contest that will be played on the weekend of the 28/29 January, with exact details to be confirmed in due course.

Skinner reflects on Malta successvideo

Sunderland currently occupy 11th spot in the 12-team second tier and are managed by former Black Cats and Newcastle United player Melanie Reay.

The encounter will be our first-ever competitive meeting with the north-east side.

As a member of the WSL, United received a bye to this stage of the competition, along with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Our best showing in the FA Cup came back in our first professional season, 2018/19, when the Reds reached the quarter-finals. Skinner's team defeated Bridgwater United in the fourth round 12 months ago, before being eliminated by City.
