Ten Hag clear on Rashford's role

Marcus Rashford heads into Sunday's Emirates FA Cup tie looking to further enhance his excellent big-game reputation and also score in a third consecutive match.

Manager Erik ten Hag dismissed any speculation around the England international's future during his press conference to preview Sunday's Emirates FA Cup quarter-final with Liverpool.

The boss responded to a question about the homegrown star by saying: “We didn't re-sign him last season for four years with the intention to sell him.

”He should be part of this project. So, that is not a subject we talk about.“

Rashford has scored six goals in previous meetings with Liverpool and only has more strikes against Leicester City (eight) during his career.

He found the net in the last FA Cup clash between the clubs, behind closed doors in 2021, with a cool finish in the entertaining 3-2 victory.

The 26-year-old is sure to be a key figure again in Sunday's 15:30 GMT kick-off, with his pace capable of exposing any gaps in the visitors' backline, as has been the case in the past.

Our no.10 hit both goals in the 2-1 victory over Jurgen Klopp's men in 2018 at Old Trafford and will be on the hunt for more this weekend.

Marcus has netted four times since the turn of the year and his penalty in the 2-0 win over Everton last time out followed the stunning effort in the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium.

So often somebody who rises to the big occasion, let's hope he can extend his record of six goals in his his last six home matches against the Merseysiders, come the huge cup clash on Sunday.
