U18s final preview: Palace v United

Manchester United's youngsters have a chance at silverware on Wednesday evening, as we take on Crystal Palace in the Under-18 Premier League Cup final.

The Reds prepared in the best possible way after beating the Eagles in the FA Youth Cup semi-finals on Friday night, securing our passage to another final.

That means that a domestic Treble is still on for our Under-18s, who are still battling hard at the top of the Premier League North table, along with Manchester City.

But, for now, attention quickly turns to our midweek assignment in the capital, with all the details available for you down below.

HOW TO WATCH AND FOLLOW

Tickets are still available for the 19:00 BST kick-off at Selhurst Park, with pricing at £5 for adults and just £1 for under-18s and seniors.

If you cannot make the game, MUTV has you covered, with live footage available from 18:55 BST, for viewers in the UK and Ireland, and the action also on ManUtd.com and in the United App.

TEAM NEWS

Gabriel was withdrawn in extra-time after his goal in our 2-1 win against Palace at Old Trafford just a few days ago, so whether he has shaken off his knock, or if it was fatigue-related, remains to be seen.

Jim Thwaites was added to the matchday squad for the brilliant 1-0 victory for Michael Carrick's men at Chelsea on Saturday night but may keep his place in the engine room here.

Chido Obi the winner against the young Eagles last time out and could lead the line again, although Louie Bradbury got a taste of the action late on.

Ex-Palace man Samuel Lusale made a real impact off the bench to promote his claims, while another substitute, James Overy, set up the winner.

Chido netted the winner in M16 against Palace a few days ago.

ROUTE TO THE FINAL

Having lifted the trophy back in the 2023/24 campaign under Adam Lawrence, United are looking to do so again for the second time in three years.

Wins over Brighton & Hove Albion, Middlesbrough and Birmingham City saw us advance to the knockout stages of the competition, after finishing top of Group G.

We then overcame West Brown 4-3 in the quarter-finals, before needing extra-time to beat West Ham United at Carrington, eventually emerging 3-1 winners last month.

REMAINING FIXTURES

We have a tight run-in to come as we reach the business end of the season, with Sunderland next up in the Under-18 Premier League on Saturday.

After that, games with Liverpool, Newcastle and Stoke City round off the campaign, as we attempt to pip Manchester City to the northern title.

Should we do so, we will play the winner of the U18 Premier League South, with both victors facing off to be crowned national champions.

We have previous recent experience of that honour, after beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to claim the title in 2023/24.

Then there is the still the exciting prospect of facing Manchester City in the FA Youth Cup final, with that game set to be played before or on Saturday 9 May.
