Manchester United beat Everton 2-1 as Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 700th club goal of his incredible career.
Our no.7 scored what proved to be the winner late in the first half of an enthralling clash at Goodison Park.
Alex Iwobi had put the hosts ahead as the rain fell on Merseyside, before Antony and then Ronaldo struck to turn the match around for the Reds.
The result, a fifth Premier League win of the season for Erik ten Hag’s team, moves United up to fifth place in the table.
Iwobi netted the opener inside five minutes, with a deadly strike from distance. The Nigerian international dispatched an effort from outside the area and into the top-right corner.
The Reds were back on level terms just 10 minutes later though, thanks to Antony, after the Brazilian neatly tucked the ball past Jordon Pickford with delightful compose, having latched onto an Anthony Martial pass.
Martial, however, had to be substituted shortly before the half-hour mark for what appeared to be a hip problem that had caused him some discomfort during the warm-up.
The French forward was replaced by Ronaldo, who made sure United were ahead going into the break when he seamlessly combined with Casemiro to get behind the Toffees’ defence and slot home his landmark goal.
Ten Hag’s side were good value for the 2-1 lead at the interval, having enjoyed a prolonged period of control after equalising. Decent chances were created for Christian Eriksen and Casemiro, while Bruno Fernandes had an effort ruled out for offside.
At the start of the second half, Frank Lampard’s side had a renewed vigour as they set about the task of getting back into the game, but while they were applying more pressure, creating chances was a sticking point for the Toffees.
Eriksen might have extended United’s advantage when Ronaldo teed him up on the edge of the box, but the Danish midfielder struck over the bar.
With 10 minutes left on the clock, Marcus Rashford did find the back of the net, having poked home to finish a driving run after a Ronaldo flick-on. However, following a VAR check, it was chalked off as the ball had ricocheted off the keeper and onto the forward's hand in the build-up.
Despite that decision, the Reds held on to win 2-1 with the only blip being a caution for substitute Scott McTominay. His fifth yellow card of the campaign, awarded for a foul shortly after being introduced in the closing stages, means he will miss our next league match against Newcastle United.
