Michael Carrick praised his Manchester United for overcoming a new challenge after beating Crystal Palace 2-1 in the Premier League at Old Trafford.
Man of the moment Benjamin Sesko scored again to complete our comeback win against the Eagles in M16, which was helped following Maxence Lacroix's red card.
The Reds started slow as Lacroix put Palace ahead after four minutes, perfectly placing his header beyond Lammens from Brennan Johnson's corner.
But Carrick’s men fought back with a much-improved second-half showing, which saw Bruno Fernandes convert a penalty before our no.8 set up Sesko’s winner with a brilliant cross.
United manged to find a second gear and showed a spirited display in the second half, which was acknowledged by our head coach in his post-match interviews.
Below is a round-up of what the boss said had to say, as he reflected on another victory in M16, via MUTV and Sky Sports...
“I think it was a test for us today, coming into half time a goal down is something kind of new for us. We didn’t start the game great which is credit to Palace but I thought we grew into the game as the half went on and in the second half we stepped up again. It was a big thing to overcome being a goal down so early, but coming back against a team that’s tough to break down and so well organised it was a big step for us.”
PLAYERS FOUND EXTRA GEAR
“Sometimes you get that in games, you get that second wind, I have had it as a player. We don’t want to see it but the boys are human and sometimes it is not there, you can’t always find it but we did. We played some really good football and we can take a lot from it.”
“He was clean through on goal [Cunha] and it was a great pass from Bruno. The fourth official told us that the referee [was] checking the screen to look at what card he was going to give. We will take it, it was a big moment in the game but I felt we deserved it.”
THE RESPONSE TO THE RED
“They still set up to break forward and they had moments which we had to react to and deal with but credit to the boys for breaking down a defence that is so well drilled. We could have had more.”
SESKO STRIKES AGAIN
“Ben is here to score goals and he has done enough of that lately. He is going to be an important player and will be even more important as he progresses. Him getting his start today wasn’t a big drama, it was a natural decision. I have said it before it is not a headache, it is great to have choice to rotate and change things which we can do depending on different teams. He scored a fantastic header which will do him the world of good.”
TOP FOUR AMBITIONS
“It was the way the game went, we overcame a new challenge that’s the biggest thing. We have moved up a spot which is nice but it is only one weekend so were not getting carried away with it. I think the boys will benefit a lot from that.”
