Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has credited Mason Mount for his studious approach to recovery.
The midfielder spent a significant time sidelined after sustaining an injury in December in our victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, before returning and gradually building up his minutes since the beginning of April.
He's had to be patient, but his hard work is all paying off now.
Our no.7 notched two important, and eye-catching, goals in our 4-1 win over Athletic Club, taking the pressure off the Reds completely in our UEFA Europa League semi-final, with Les Leones threatening a comeback before he was brought on.
Amorim has observed every step of Mount's return to the pitch and, having seen the work the midfielder's put in, our Portuguese boss couldn't be happier.
“It's important for every player [to return],”
Amorim told TNT Sports after Wednesday night's win. “But when you see that kind of guy working hard every day, eating well, resting, ice bath. He does everything.
”When you have this kind of player, you just want to help them.“
With our date in Bilbao now set, against Tottenham Hotspur in the final, Amorim went on to admit just how important it is to have a full squad to choose from.
Mount, not only for his goals but also his adaptability, is certainly part of that.
“The quality that he has, like you said, it's perfect for that position,”
Amorim continued.
“He can be a midfielder, he can run like a winger, he can play with his back to the goal. I'm really happy for him.”
