Ruben promises changes in short and long term

Ruben Amorim has stressed that people should not be fixated with the idea of a strongest Manchester United XI.

Our head coach selected an unchanged side across two Premier League games for the first time in his reign, as we drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest last time out.

With only Lisandro Martinez absent at The City Ground, it was suspected the continuity of selecting was helping with consistency but Ruben has made it clear that he will make alterations to the team, in order to utilise the strength in depth within his squad.

Ruben: We are going to do bettervideo

“First of all, I think we cannot just connect these two points [consistency of team selection and the results],” Amorim explained to club media, in our exclusive pre-Tottenham Hotspur interview at Carrington.

“We can have different starting XIs and, especially with one game per week, we need to have that fighting during the week.

”And I need to make some changes, not just for the short term, but for the long term.

“I think we are improving as a squad. We are winning games because we train better, we understand better the game. We have more options. So it's more, the consistency from the results is more a squad thing than a starting XI.”

The Reds are striving to make it four unbeaten games on the spin as we travel south to face Spurs in Saturday's lunchtime kick-off (12:30 GMT).

Victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would take United above the north Londoners and up to second in the table, before the other nine top-flight fixtures take place.

It would be the perfect way to head into another international break, the final one of the calendar year, and Ruben will be plotting the best line-up to do the job against Thomas Frank's men.

Frank, meanwhile, provided an update on his squad in a press conference on Friday.

The hosts are sweating on the fitness of summer arrival Mohammed Kudus, who is described as being “touch and go” for the game after missing the midweek win over FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League.

Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie reported fit and well after their exertions on Tuesday but Dominic Solanke will not be back until after the international break.
