Ruben Amorim felt Manchester United could have been braver in seeking to kill the game off at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Reds led for much of the afternoon in north London, following Bryan Mbeumo’s well-taken header from Amad’s pinpoint cross.
Spurs were coming under fire from a restless home support, but turned the contest around when Mathys Tel’s shot deflected in off Matthijs de Ligt and Richarlison glanced home Wilson Odobert’s long-range effort.
De Ligt headed home at the far post to rescue a point, but our head coach was left musing on what might have been…
WIN WAS THERE FOR TAKING
“In the end, I think if you see the game you feel that the three points were there to take home, but then with everything that happened - Harry has to come out, Casemiro has to come out, [so does] Ben. We suffered two goals again in a short period of time, but managed to score again, so it's a point. When you cannot win, you don’t lose and once again we managed to do that. If you look to the game and if you feel the environment, we have so much to grow as a team, because today was our day to win this game.”
FIRST HALF BETTER THAN SECOND
“I think it's more we need to look at ourselves. We were not pressing with the same intensity, because we felt comfortable. We need to understand that but to feel also that if we have a little bit more bravery, we can kill this game. Sometimes it's like that: you have a first half better than the second.”
NEED TO KILL GAMES OFF
“We need to feel the environment of the game and feel that the opponent is nervous, so we need to kill the game and not wait until the end.”
PROUD OF RESPONSE
“I think it's the positive point, that we managed to push forward to understand that with less one player [the best thing] is to push the ball to the final third, trying to win a corner. We did that and then we believe in our capacity to score goals until the last minute, and we did that.”
LAMMENS SO MATURE
“He's doing really well. He’s very adult and he understands that in the game a lot of things can happen, but especially for a goalkeeper you need to move on for anything that can happen until the last minute. So it's like a new game every time the ball is on the pitch. I think he at 23 years old. he understands that quite well.”
UPDATE ON INJURED PLAYERS
“I don’t know, I have to check. My biggest concern is with Ben. For me, they are all the same but we need to understand what happened.”
PLANS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL BREAK
“It’s a little bit frustration but also a little bit pride of the response of the players after the second goal of Tottenham. Then to look at the team. I understand that this is just the tip of the iceberg. So we are just in the beginning of becoming a very strong team. We have a lot to do and we are going to work with the guys that are not going to the national team, and we are going to evaluate everything, trying to see also games from the kids. So try to use this space on evolution of our club, not just the first team.”
