United duo called up for Africa Cup of Nations

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana and midfielder Sofyan Amrabat have been called up to by their respective national squads for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast.

Both Cameroon and Morocco announced their squads on Thursday, with the tournament beginning on Saturday 13 January.

Scheduled to finish a month later, with the final taking place on Sunday 11 February, 24 teams will battle it out for the prize to become Africa's best.

The players who go to AFCON will be unavailable for the Reds for as long as they remain in the competition.

Reds learn Africa Cup of Nations groups

Following the group-stage draw in August, it was confirmed that Onana's Cameroon would take on Senegal, Guinea and Gambia in Group C. 

Amrabat's Morocco, on the other hand, begin the tournament with games against the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Tanzania in Group F.

The Africa Cup of Nations will run for just under a month, and the final is set to take place at Alassane Ouattara Stadium.

Reigning champions Senegal will be hoping to win their second title, after beating Egypt on penalties back in 2021.
