Michael Carrick has provided updates on Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu and Leny Yoro, ahead of Monday’s meeting with Brentford at Old Trafford.
The boss will have an extra option at his disposal after last Saturday’s 1-0 win at Chelsea, where Noussair Mazraoui partnered Ayden Heaven in the centre of defence.
Harry Maguire missed that game, as well as the defeat to Leeds United, through suspension, but is now able to return.
Lisandro Martinez serves the second match of his three-game ban, following a red card against the Whites, while Dorgu is not available yet, despite progressing with his recovery from a muscle injury.
Yoro is hoping to be back after suffering a knock in training last week, but Carrick can not confirm his availability at this stage.
“To be honest, everything’s alright, as it was,”
our head coach said, at the start of Thursday’s press conference.
“Couple of knocks and niggles a little bit, coming out of the game, that you’d expect.
“Patrick [Chinazaekpere Dorgu]’s working his way to being back.
“He’s certainly making good progress and back closer to training with us, which is positive, so that's good news.
“We’re still working on [Leny]. So, there’s a possibility, there’s a possibility, but at this stage, it’s not 100 per cent sure.”
Matthijs de Ligt is still absent with a back issue, which has kept him out since late November.
Youngsters such as Shea Lacey, Jack Moorhouse and Sonny Aljofree were part of the training group on Thursday, while Jim Thwaites was involved in a senior matchday squad for the first time, at Chelsea.
The Reds are a maximum of six points away from guaranteeing Champions League qualification for next season, with five games to play.
BRENTFORD TEAM NEWS
Keith Andrews is yet to hold his pre-match press conference, as the Bees prepare for the trip north with a first-ever European qualification still possible.
Aaron Hickey was back on the Brentford bench for the west London derby stalemate with Fulham, after two months out injured, while Jordan Henderson is thought to be closing in on a return.
Rico Henry and Vitaly Janelt are unlikely to play on Monday but are hoping to be involved again before the end of 2025/26, while Fabio Carvalho, Jay Dasilva and Antoni Milambo are long-term absentees.
