Poll result: Amad catches the eye at Forest

Amad was selected by fans voting on ManUtd.com and in the United App as our Man of the Match after Saturday’s 2-2 draw away to Nottingham Forest.

The Ivorian’s glorious 81st-minute volley proved to be decisive in United taking a point from The City Ground and was the undoubted highlight of what was a lively individual performance at right wing-back.

That strike opened his scoring account for the season and, buoyed by the effort, our no.16 nearly netted a dramatic late winner in stoppage time, but for Murillo getting in the way of what appeared to another goalbound attempt.

Amad’s contribution on the afternoon was recognised by a majority 52 per cent of supporters in our post-match poll, to see him finish ahead of fellow goalscorer Casemiro (20 per cent) in second. Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw (six per cent each) tied for third.

WHAT AMAD SAID

Speaking to MUTV after the full-time whistle, Amad explained that he was pleased to score his first goal of the season, but those feelings were understandably mixed with disappointment at not getting the three points.

“I was happy to score my first goal,”
he told Zarah Connolly in the tunnel at The City Ground. “It’s always nice when you score, but it’s more important when you score and you win.

“For me, this goal means something but means nothing because we go with one point. We wanted to win the game to go home happy.

“We’ll learn from this and try to do the best next time. In the second half, we gave them two easy goals.”
WHAT AMORIM SAID

Ruben rued Forest's goals in his own post-match interviews, but also spoke well about Amad, who he says is maturing quickly and has the potential to become an even better player.

“Amad has a lot of talent, he is growing up really fast,”
Amorim stated, while reviewing Saturday’s encounter with BBC Match of the Day. “I think we have a lot of players that are young and talented, but we need to help in all the details.

“He is improving a lot, he can play in different positions, I think he can be so much better. More consistent in every detail, when he receives the ball, in build-up, when he is in the final third.

“You could see in the first half he had some opportunities. In a lot of games, he has that opportunity coming inside, and the shot is not there yet. We are working on that, so he has potential to do better.”
