Manchester United forward Wout Weghorst has explained why he will wear the no.27 shirt during his loan spell at Old Trafford.
The Dutch international striker has joined the Reds from Burnley until the end of the season, in a move that was completed on Friday.
Weghorst watched his new team-mates defeat Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday, before training with the squad on the following day. It was also confirmed on Sunday that Wout will wear the number 27 on the back of his United shirt, over the coming months.
“Of course, I looked into the ones that are free or available. Two and seven will make nine, of course – a striker’s number,”Weghorst told us.
“I had a feeling with it.”
But with Telles not due to return from the Spanish club until Weghorst’s temporary stay at United expires, the latter reveals that he got in touch with Alex to enquire about the possibility of taking his jersey for the next few months.
“Of course, when I came here, I heard about it was Alex [Telles]’s number, he got loaned out now,”Wout continued.
“I first had to ask him if that was okay, so I said that was, for me, important and then, in the end, there was no problem so thanks to him also.
“So yeah, I go for the 27 and actually it’s just because I had a good feeling with it.”
