Antony: Old Trafford atmosphere is our fuel

Wednesday 05 April 2023 13:00

Manchester United winger Antony has described the atmosphere that our supporters create at Old Trafford as “fuel for us to keep on going”.

Speaking to club media ahead of tonight’s Premier League meeting with Brentford, the Brazilian reiterated the importance of being backed by the United faithful.

Antony and co have lost just two of 26 outings at the Theatre of Dreams this season and that synergy with the supporters has certainly played its part in making our home stadium a difficult place for opposing teams to visit.

That's how we will want the Bees to find it this evening, as the Reds look for a return to winning ways following the weekend’s 2-0 defeat away to Newcastle.

“I always say to my friends and family that the fans [inside Old Trafford] are amazing, all 73,000 of them,” Antony told us.

“Manchester United aren’t any ordinary club or ordinary team, not every fan base is like this.

“Like I’ve always said, the atmosphere they create is like fuel for us to keep on going.”

The Brentford clash is the first of three successive games for Erik ten Hag’s side at Old Trafford, with Everton to come afterwards in the Premier League on Saturday, before our Europa League quarter-final first leg at home to Sevilla next Thursday.

Antony believes the fans will continue to be important to our success over the next nine days and beyond, as the run-in of his first season in England unfolds.

The Reds return to Old Trafford on Wednesday, with Thomas Frank's side the visitors.

“They always help and support us and give us that extra motivation,” our no.21 added.

“With a stadium full of fans creating that atmosphere every game, we're motivated even more.

“Having their support plays a big role as we seek to achieve big things.”
