Blind: I'm proud he's my dad

UTD Podcast | Daley Blind explains how he's dealt with the pressure of following in dad Danny's footballing footsteps...

"I never really considered that," said the Bayern Munich player, when asked whether he thought about moving to PSV Eindhoven or Feyenoord to get away from the expectations of being a Blind playing for Ajax.

"I am also very proud that he's my dad and [that] he got so much success as a football player. I think also in my time as a player he tried to step away from it a little bit. Because he had his own team, his own football. There wasn't a lot of times when when he could watch my games.

"My mum was always there with my sisters and sometimes my dad. My mum was raising [us] most of the time because he was gone always but of course when he could he would come to games."

Danny Blind also enjoyed success as a manager, winning the KNVB Cup with Ajax in 2006 and also taking charge of his national team in 2015. He is now an assistant of current Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman, with Daley being part of that very squad.

"I think the pressure came when I was older," continued the former United utility man. "The expectation from people outside on the stands. When you come on [in] a youth tournament at 19 and you see 'Blind' on the folder, [they thought] 'this is the son of Danny Blind, lets see him.'

"It was not really fair. People judged me more because of my name and yeah, it's hard with the pressure but I think it's also maybe more of a fight to show them what I was capable of.

"I didn't want to give them any reason [to say] that I'm doing it because of him or I [am only in] professional football because of him."
