Erik ten Hag has condemned the level of criticism Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has received.

Speaking in his press conference to preview Saturday's match against Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford, the boss was asked about the England defender, who was targeted during his country's 3-1 friendly win over Scotland.

Ten Hag is firm in his backing of the centre-back, and says the intense criticism he has received is "crazy".

''I think I have said already, many times, it is disrespectful," declared Erik.

"He does not deserve it, he is a great player and [he has] given great performances.

"It's crazy but it's how it works and Harry has to block this by [his] performances.''

Ten Hag added that now that the squad's international players, including Harry, have returned to Carrington, the squad is focused on getting three points against Brighton, in front of our home supporters.

"We take the performance [against Arsenal] and also in the last two days, when all the players they came back, we trained very well and we are ready to fight Brighton, a very good Brighton.

"We are really looking forward to it and we have a good vibe. We are ready for it.''
