How to watch 'One Love: Common Ground'

Tuesday 26 September 2023 15:00

Our new documentary series, One Love, highlights the passions that unite our fans all around the world and we are proud that the films have been embraced by an international audience.

The first two episodes - ‘Trailblazers’ and ‘Keep the Red Flag Flying High’ - were released earlier this month and are among our most-viewed videos across MUTV.

Those films tell the stories behind two devoted fan groups: the Manchester United Women Supporters’ Club and Manchester Munich Memorial Fund.

We have been blown away by the responses to One Love so far and we are delighted to confirm episode three, ‘Common Ground’, will be available to watch from 16:00 BST on Thursday 28 September.

You can watch the teaser trailer below…

TRAILER: Here's what to expect from Common Ground, the third film in our One Love series.
COMMON GROUND

Our latest One Love film presents the heartfelt stories of three disabled United fans - Sital Shah, Alan Rayment and Sean Jeffrey - as they simultaneously attend at match at Old Trafford with family.

The triumvirate of Reds are all members of the Manchester United Disabled Supporters' Association, which is better known as MUDSA, and it is fair to say they are true inspirations.

“I have experienced some discrimination being in a wheelchair, usually when we go shopping and they tend to talk to my husband,” says Sital, who suffers from limb girdle muscular dystrophy and attends with husband Harshil. “If they do talk to me, they speak to me quite slowly as if I don't understand. When I go to the game, I don't feel like anyone makes assumptions about me.”

Get to know Sital and Harshil, whose relationship will definitely make you smile.

We also spend time with Sean, described as “United’s greatest supporter”, who has epilepsy, Asperger’s syndrome and autism, but remains a charismatic and positive presence at Old Trafford.

He is also a popular – and talented! - player at the Foundation’s Ability Counts programme, as we see in the film.

“Sean has made a lot of friends because of his personality and he is a lot more outgoing than he was,” explains his proud dad Tony, who attends games with his son in the disability section.

“Without United, I don't know where we would be with Sean because it is his life.”

Sean is a popular and charismatic presence at Old Trafford, as you can see in this clip from Common Ground.

Then there’s Alan, a heroic Red who had a pedal bike accident at the age of 12 that led to his left leg being amputated. Years later, a car accident led to his right leg being amputated.

“From the age of 12 to 23, 24, I was in excruciating pain and I missed out on a lot of my childhood. It is not something I like to talk about because the following 25 years have been immense.”

Incredibly, wheelchair-bound Alan went on to complete marathons and triathlons, represent Great Britian and carry the Olympic flame. He is now training to be a counsellor, but his biggest passion is United.

Viewers of Common Ground will be inspired by Alan's story - take a look at this clip.

“If I had something to look forward to then I wasn't thinking about my disability,” he explains at the start of our film, before later saying: “For us at MUDSA, I can't thank everyone enough for what they do for us all. We are a great club, with unbelievable facilities and it's an amazing day out, it really is.”

'Common Ground' will be available to watch in full from 16:00 BST on Thursday 28 September.
