Indeed, the creation of impressive young people continues to be a key pillar of our trailblazing youth system and this film’s senior star, Kobbie Mainoo, is a shining example of that.
In the film, we follow the midfield prodigy – graduate number 246 – throughout a nostalgic return to his old primary school and witness the inspirational impact he’s had on the children.
When asked by one pupil how he stays humble amid a stratospheric rise, his grounded roots are clear to see in his response. “I have never really been one to brag,” says Kobbie.
“I just keep my head down, keep trying to work hard and I try not to listen to people who keep on bigging me up. Obviously, I appreciate it, but you can't let it get to your head.”
Speaking to series presenter Harry Robinson in the classroom, Kobbie reflects on his development and education throughout his long journey within the Academy.
“It's definitely helped me,” he says. “Especially the punctuality thing. I really don't like to be late, it's one of my biggest pet peeves, so that's the main one and obviously being presentable as well, showing respect to senior players and coaching staff. It's definitely helped a lot.
“They tried to uphold the highest standards and make sure we do as well, and hold each other accountable for these things. Be presentable as well. Took your shirt in and socks below knees, stuff like that. It's definitely values that they put into us when we were young.”

ELSEWHERE IN DEVELOPING PEOPLE
Elsewhere in the film, head of Academy operations Steve Higham speaks passionately about the traditions our young players experience.
It's vital to make our Academy players feel special throughout their journeys – they are part of a select group of people, after all – and that includes the symbolic gifting of a club suit, as well as the pen that’s used to sign a contract.
Lifeblood: History

The reasons why our players wear black boots is another fascinating topic, but we don't spoil that here – watch the film for the answers!
We later hear from two loving fathers of young Reds, who explain exactly what it's like to support sons with the potential to play professional football.
There’s also a brilliant insight into the educational experiences our youth players enjoy, including trips around the world, cookery workshops and media training with our MUTV team.
