Kleberson returns to Carrington after 20 years away

Former Manchester United player Kleberson made a nostalgic return to Carrington on Thursday for the first time since leaving the club.

The World Cup winner became our first Brazilian player during the summer of 2003 and went on to make 30 appearances, score two goals and win one major trophy (the FA Cup).

Kleberson left United for Besiktas in 2005 and, 20 years later, he was back at our training ground for a tour of the facilities, alongside his old team-mate and friend Quinton Fortune.

Posting a series of photos to Instagram, the 46-year-old was in a reflective mood.

“It was a great honour to return to Manchester United's Carrington training centre after 22 years,” wrote Kleberson on Instagram. “I had the privilege of wearing this shirt and having unique experiences that shaped my career as a professional athlete.

“Today, being in this environment again, now with a more technical view, I was able to observe closely all the structural and technological evolution that the club has implemented, especially in the core categories.
“It's impressive to see the care Manchester United puts into complete athlete training, going beyond four lines to also invest in personal training and the holistic development of young talent.

“This mentality is what keeps the club as a global benchmark in football. We keep on learning, exchanging experiences

“I thank my friend Quinton Fortune for receiving me, it's always gratifying to meet people who have been part of this trajectory and who continue to add.”

PAVING THE WAY

Last week, Kleberson shared a heartfelt message of support for his compatriot Matheus Cunha via Instagram, who is set to become our 11th Brazilian player following a transfer from Wolves.

“Wishing Matheus Cunha all the best on this new journey. I'm confident that his arrival will bring great job and many titles to Manchester United.

“Wishing him much success on and off the pitch!

“Warm regards, Kleberson.”
