World Water Day: Kohler continues to tackle global inequity

Friday 22 March 2024 16:00

Kohler is taking action to make safe water and sanitation a reality for those affected most by this global issue of inequity.

One of Manchester United's official partners, Kohler, works with global humanitarian organisations to develop and fund solutions to meet the unique needs of communities around the world.

They also have a long-standing internal innovation programme, Innovation for Good, with the stated mission of developing scalable solutions for pressing global issues, such as the lack of access to safe water and sanitation.

Since 2014, more than 2.2 million lives around the world have been impacted by Kohler’s Safe Water for All efforts.

In 2022, 2.2 billion people still lacked safely managed drinking water. Kohler are committed to aiding people across the globe, with the overarching aim of achieving water equity.

The same stats, recorded two years ago, indicated that 2 billion people still lacked basic hygiene services, including 653 million with no facility at all.

Unsafe water, sanitation and hygiene are responsible for the deaths of around 1,000 children under five every day.

The start of this month marked the fourth year of Kohler's campaign, with a particular focus on International Women's Day and how these issues disproportionately impact women and girls.

This demographic spend 200 million hours every day collecting water, which negatively impacts them as this time is not spent working, caring for
family members, or attending school.

Conversely, every year a girl stays in school, her income can increase by 15-25 per cent, meaning that cleaner water can have a positive knock-on effect on their prospects in life.
