Players across Manchester United’s Academy celebrated exam success last week with every single one of the club’s scholars achieving above their target grade.

Remote learning and lockdowns led to a disruptive year of education, however the group performed extremely well in balancing their football and schoolwork.

There were several highlights including four players achieving the highest grade possible in at least one of their GCSE subjects.

Nick Cox: “We are extremely proud of each of our boys’ achievements both on and off the pitch throughout the last academic year."

The second-year scholars were among the first players in the country to achieve the new Sporting Excellence Professional qualification with 70 per cent of the year group achieving a Distinction grade. In addition to this they also completed their BTEC Diploma in either Sport or Marketing, with six players achieving an Extended Diploma.

These achievements are down to the hard work of the players but also United’s education team, the MANUSS programme and the excellent relationship with the Academy’s partner school, Ashton on Mersey.

Nick Cox, Head of Academy, said: “We are extremely proud of each of our boys’ achievements both on and off the pitch throughout the last academic year.

“They have all done brilliantly, especially when you take into account the amount of adversity we have all gone through across the year.

“Our education team and partner schools have established an excellent learning environment and have done a fantastic job ensuring the boys remained focussed on their education over a challenging period.

“The Academy continues to focus on the holistic development of our players and the boy’s all deserve great credit for their dedication to their education.”
