Danish Reds back Hojlund to 'make his own history'

Rasmus Hojlund has the capabilities to shine in the Premier League and make his mark at Manchester United, according to a leading member of the Reds' Scandinavian supporters club.

Hojlund's transfer has made waves in his homeland and, having featured off the bench against Arsenal before the international break, the 20-year-old made his home debut on Saturday against Brighton at Old Trafford, almost marking the occasion with a goal to remember.

Indeed, Rasmus has quickly caught the attention and, as Anton says, the key assets a striker needs are things that come naturally to him.

Anton Hagelund, who chairs the Danish contingent among more than 40,000 members of our Scandinavian supporters club, is backing Hojlund to be a success and "make his mark" in Manchester.

“First of all, we’re really proud of Rasmus's own development and I am incredibly impressed about the the fact that Rasmus now joined Christian [Eriksen] at Old Trafford,” he began.

“The media coverage has been following the transfer for obvious reasons, so even as a non-football fan I believe we’ve been reminded about how big this transfer is for Danish football. We’re all waving for him and wish him the best of luck in Manchester.

“Rasmus is still only 20 years old, but seems like a mature player seen from the interviews and the media coverage. There is no doubt that it’ll help him settle into a squad in probably the most competitive league in the world.”

Hojlund's bullish cameos against Arsenal and Brighton gave Reds fans a glimpse of what to expect from the striker, with his physicality particularly prominent.

“In my opinion he seems powerful, quick and strong,” added Hagelund. “I hope he’ll be able to help United put pressure on the back four, [and] create space for our wingers and score goals.  As I said, he’s young, brave and on a track towards building a great career.

“Becoming a part of Manchester United at an early age and being surrounded by professionals on a daily basis can hopefully help Rasmus improve on all aspects of his game.

“We also have to remind ourselves that Ten Hag previously has shown that he’s keen to have a strong striker, from his period in Ajax.

“I personally don’t like comparisons and I don’t have anyone specific in mind saying this, because often we compare players who had careers who turned out completely different than expected.

“I hope Rasmus will make his own history.”

The Debate: Hot topic | Did Rasmus Hojlund's cameo at Arsenal show he's ready to start against Brighton?

After Denmark's 1-0 win over Finland during the most recent international break, a viral clip emerged on social media of Hojlund speaking through a megaphone to the Denmark supporters who had made the trip to support them in Helsinki.

Speaking about this video, and our no.11's personality, Anton is backing Hojlund to have an impact at United and hit the ground running.

“I would imagine that all 1600 Danish fans who travelled to Helsinki and watched the game live were really pleased about Rasmus and the team took the time to celebrate the victory with them,” he said.

SIGNING INTERVIEW | Rasmus is a Red and he's beaming! Watch his introductory Q&A with club reporter Harry Robinson...

“Rasmus has shown that football is nothing without fans and he genuinely looked so happy getting the chance to speak and sing with the fans. It shows that Rasmus has some character, he’s willing to take on responsibility and [I strongly believe] that this is just the beginning for him becoming a great striker at Old Trafford.

“We all love players with an edge and I have no doubt about that Rasmus is eager to make his own mark at Manchester United.

“I believe he’s a great fit for the Premier League and hopefully within the current season he’ll help United to compete in the top flight again.”
