Evans presented with 100th international cap

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans marked a very special occasion with a triumphant win for Northern Ireland on Saturday (14 October) afternoon.

Though now sitting on 104 appearances for his nation, the Reds stalwart was presented with his 100th cap in front of home supporters in Belfast yesterday.

Evans made his debut for Northern Ireland back in 2006 before he had even registered his first minutes as a Red, delivering a composed performance at just 18 years old, to help defeat a star-studded Spanish side.

This weekend he was on the winning side once more as he captained his homeland to a comfortable 3-0 win over San Marino in the UEFA Euro qualifiers.

Our no.35 played 63 minutes before being rested as part of a triple substitution, at which point his Northern Ireland were already two goals to the good.

Goals from Paul Smyth and Josh Magennis set them on their way, before Conor McMenamin came off the bench to score their third, nine minutes from time.

104 appearances makes him the fourth most capped player in Northern Ireland history, for the men's team, still some way behind Steven Davis's leading tally of 140.

Evans will no doubt be hoping to add more to his ranks as his homeland aim to climb Group H of the Euro qualifiers, in which they currently sit fifth.

Their next match is at home to Slovenia on Tuesday (17 October, 19:45 BST KO).
