United's Lionesses preparing for Euro 2022 semi-final

Manchester United players Mary Earps, Alessia Russo and Ella Toone will be targeting a place in the final of Euro 2022 when England lock horns with Sweden on Tuesday.

The Lionesses head to Sheffield United's Bramall Lane for the semi-final, with a place at Wembley up for grabs when they kick-off at 20:00 BST.

So far, United’s stars have played key roles in England reaching the last four of the competition – not least in the quarter-final when substitutes Toone and Russo linked up to net a crucial goal as they beat Spain 2-1.

Goal-scorer Toone’s 84th minute equaliser sent the match to extra-time, before Georgia Stanway struck the winner to set up the tie against Sweden, who themselves beat Belgium 1-0 to advance on Friday.

Looking ahead to the match, Toone told England Football's website: "For all of us it would be amazing to get that win in the semi-final.

“[The quarter-final] was really special in front of that crowd and every game we’ve played has been amazing, the atmospheres have been unbelievable.”

United Women's no.7 added: “We’re so grateful for the fans that support us, whether that’s in the stadium or at home and we just want to keep making them proud.

“Hopefully we see everyone’s beers flying around and that they’re enjoying the game.

“We just want to make everyone proud. That’s the main thing: inspiring the next generation.

“Hopefully we can go on and put in another big performance in the semis.”

Toone: I managed to get the little knee slide in!
