Manchester United are competing in the Sparkasse & VGH Cup in Gottingen, an indoor five-a-side tournament for Under-19s.
The Reds may be aiming for a hat-trick of successes at the event and have a youthful squad taking part, with 18-year-old Alex Fojticek the eldest member of the travelling group.
James Garner and Mason Greenwood, who have been in Dubai with the first team this week, were among those taking part last year, while Angel Gomes performed in 2017 and even had some time in goal due to an injury to Ilias Moutha-Sebtaoui!
Fulham, who were defeated by the Reds in the semi-finals last year, are reportedly bringing eight members of that squad back this time so they could be experienced rivals at some point in the competition.
“We like the German tournament,” explained Head of Academy Nicky Butt to us.
“It breaks things up and is a nice way of getting back into the swing of things after the Christmas and New Year break. It's about different techniques, learning receiving skills, spatial awareness, counter attacking, the keeper using his feet at the back and all these different dynamics.
”It's a nice atmosphere and an indoor setting. The players will bond as they're back together after being away and it can get a bit draining training in bad weather with the same scenario so these competitions are really good for us.
Colin Little is set to coach the boys with two games on Friday night - against JFV Eichsfeld-Mitte and AZ Alkmaar - before matches against Eintracht Northeim, Gottingen 05, Borussia Monchengladbach and JSG Uslar/Solling on Saturday. Sunday's fixtures will depend upon our group standing.
United: Alex Fojticek; Lukasz Bejger, Oliver Denham, Reece Devine; Mark Helm, Charlie McCann, Dion McGhee, Harvey Neville, Connor Stanley; Anthony Elanga, Largie Ramazani.Reading this in our app? If not, you might miss some exclusive features not found on ManUtd.com. Download the Official App here.
