Happy 30th birthday, MUSC Gibraltar!

Friday 08 December 2023 15:00

Saturday's Premier League game with Bournemouth is hotly anticipated by Manchester United fans everywhere, after the encouragement of Wednesday night's exciting 2-1 win over Chelsea.

But for a group of loyal Reds from sunny Gibraltar - the British Overseas Territory on Spain's south coast – the sense of expectation will be that little greater.

Why? Because our official Gibraltar supporters' club will be present in great numbers at Old Trafford on Saturday, as guests of the club to mark the branch's own 30th birthday.

Formed in 1993 by a group of diehard United fans, the Manchester United Supporters Gibraltar Branch has only gone from strength to strength since then.
Club chairman Stephen Peralta describes Gibraltar's 30th anniversary as a proud moment for all associated with the branch.
In 2023, there are circa 230 official members, with anywhere from 40 to 100 fans congregating at the branch's premises – which is open six days a week - to watch each United game.

In 2009, those very premises were inaugurated by the mighty Sir Alex Ferguson, who made a three-day visit with former club captain Bryan Robson and his then assistant Mick Phelan.

On Saturday, the group will be welcomed pitchside to mark MUSC Gibraltar's longevity, as a thanks for the years of hardcore support.
"This is a proud moment for all of us – United is very much a big part of our lives,” club chairman Stephen Peralta told United Review.

"United is one of the most popular supported teams in Gibraltar. There are many supporters of Liverpool, Arsenal too, and now there are many City fans as well, Chelsea too.

"But we we are the only supporters' club that has its own premises in Gibraltar!
Sir Alex was invited to open the club's new permanent premises in 2009.
"It's very important to us," he continued. "Football is one of the main things in Gibraltar. People talk about football and about Manchester every day. I go down and meet the supporters every day and we talk about United. It's very much in our lives."

We hope Old Trafford will join us in celebrating this landmark for the Gibraltar Reds on Saturday – please pass on your congratulations if you happen to bump into them on matchday.

Congratulations, Manchester United Supporters' Club Gibraltar!
