Geyse misses out on Gold Cup triumph

Manchester United forward Geyse came runner-up with Brazil at the 2024 Gold Cup, after the Selecao fell to a 1-0 defeat against USA in the final.

The attacker joined the fray in the 65th minute at the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, replacing Gabi Nunes, but unfortunately couldn't help her side draw level, after Lindsey Horan had put USA ahead on the brink of half-time.

There wasn't much to choose between the sides throughout the final but, with the interval beckoning, Emily Fox hoisted a deep cross to the back post, where Horan rose highest and directed her header back across goal and into the far corner.

Brazil pushed for a leveller in the second period but the USA's defence stood firm, as the hosts held on to claim the inaugural Women's Gold Cup.

While she will be disappointed at not going all the way, there is plenty from the tournament for our no.23 to be proud of.

The 25-year-old played a key role for her nation and even scored a sublime half-volley in the 5-0 group-stage win over Panama, following it up with another goal too.
