United Women v Chelsea to be shown live on TV

It was announced earlier this month that Casey Stoney’s side would entertain reigning champions Chelsea at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday 6 September.

The match, which will take place behind closed doors, will now be shown live on BT Sport 1, with kick-off set for 14:30 BST. The match will also be broadcast in full on MUTV shortly after the final whistle and is available on demand.

The Reds enjoyed an impressive maiden top-flight campaign, finishing fourth on a points-per-game basis after COVID-19 forced the season to be curtailed, with Chelsea pipping Manchester City to claim their second league crown in three years – and their third in total under coach Emma Hayes.

The capital club claimed a narrow 1-0 win over United at Kingsmeadow in our only previous top-flight meeting and Stoney and co will be looking to put an end to their impressive 21-match unbeaten league run, which stretches back to January 2019.

Our clash with the Blues could be the first chance for United supporters to see new signings Ona Batlle, Ivana Fuso and Lucy Staniforth in action, while the Londoners have added Niamh Charles, Jessie Fleming and Melanie Leupolz to their ranks.

United’s first away fixture of the season comes the following week, when we travel to the Midlands to take on Birmingham City on 13 September. This game kicks off at 14:00 BST.

The Reds have been warming up for the campaign with friendlies against Glasgow City, Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa.
