Skinner: We need one more push on Sunday

Marc Skinner believes Liverpool will provide a tough challenge for Manchester United in the club's final WSL game before the winter break.

United have played Liverpool once already this season, winning 1-0 in a difficult Continental Tyres League Cup tie.

After four victories in a row in all competitions, Skinner is hoping to finish the first half of the season on a high.

Here are Marc's key quotes from his pre-match press conference.

Nikita Parris scored the only goal in our Conti Cup win over Liverpool earlier this season.

ON LIVERPOOL’S START TO THE SEASON…

“When you play against [Matt] Beard’s teams, they are always difficult to beat. There are some teams that if you play well you can almost guarantee that you are going to win whereas this team is not that. You have to beat Liverpool. I think it’s a different type of game. Even when we won last year it didn’t feel anything like a 6-0. Our last few games have been really tight. I always find them one of the most difficult teams to play. We need to be at our very best. We need a big push. It’s been a three-game week and we are a day later on our game prep compared to Liverpool, so I expect a really tough task.”

ON LIVERPOOL’S IMPROVEMENT…

“I think a lot of it is squad depth. I think it’s a new style. They are always aggressive so they are obviously going to try and press. You have to earn your right in the game. We have been almost flawless this season. Barring a couple of moments, we have been excellent. We have dropped points in a couple of games but apart from [some of our] finishing, we have been excellent. If we put our best performance in then we can win the game. We have to raise our levels one more time before the winter break."

Skinner is happy with the first half of the season.

ON THE FIRST HALF OF THE SEASON…

"I think the league is growing and the quality of the teams is growing. I know from the game-planning aspect that you have to constantly adapt and evolve. I think that from our perspective, barring the Manchester City performance, we have been excellent, considering four or five of my players joined us in the last week of the transfer window. They have grown together, they continue to grow together and it will be an exciting second half of the season, I can ensure you that."
