Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has detailed why Benjamin Sesko wasn't included in his starting XI at Liverpool.

Sesko, who scored in consecutive Premier League games prior to our clash with the Merseysiders, was a surprise omission at Anfield, with some left curious.

The Slovenia international netted previously against both Sunderland and Brentford, but was tasked with making an impact from the bench against Arne Slot's men.

Amorim was pushed for a reason as to why the former RB Leipzig man didn't begin the contest against the reigning champions, explaining firstly his team selection headaches.

PRESS CONFERENCE | The boss takes questions on a range of topics following our hard-fought success at the champions...

"Especially in the bad moments, you have to go with your guts and I always go by that, no matter what," began the boss when quizzed on the matter in his post-match press conference.

"I think it's the most important thing for the manager, right or wrong sometimes, but that is, for me, the key point of being a manager.

"And then sometimes you have a player in the good moment, but the characteristic of the game is not for him, so it's better to go with a player and understand that is not for him and then take him out to the game."

Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount formed a fluid frontline for United and were an interesting watch across the contest, before Sesko was introduced late on to help seal a famous away win.

Amorim went on to explain his reasoning for Sesko not starting from the off, revealing an element of his game plan was to stop Liverpool's talented centre-backs, Ibrahima Konate and Virgil Van Dijk, from controlling our central focal point up top.

"Sometimes the characteristics of the game change the way you are going to approach the game," Amorim added.

"So I think for example, [Matheus] Cunha, in the middle, if we put Ben [Sesko], I think it's easier for this kind of centre-backs to control our striker.

"So we try to do that, but when you win is so smart, the coach, is amazing, and then when you lose, it is something wrong with the manager. I understand that.

"That's why I'm going always what I think is the best for the team."
