Amorim plans to address fans

Sunday 25 May 2025 10:00

Ruben Amorim plans to uphold the tradition of speaking to the supporters after the final whistle of our last home game of the season.

The head coach is following the managers before him, who have taken to the microphone to thank the fans and talk directly to them, once the game against Aston Villa is over.

It has been an extremely difficult campaign and the midweek Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur has been undeniably painful for everyone associated with the club.

Final-day Q&A: Ruben's message

RUBEN'S Q&A | Amorim explains how we can use Villa's visit to put the Europa League final behind us...

When asked by MUTV if he had a message for the supporters who travelled to Bilbao, he said: "I would say, Sunday, I will have the opportunity to speak to them after the game.

"It's tradition in our club. It's hard to speak to the fans in this moment. So we have one more game in our home and we want to finish in a good way. Then I will have the opportunity to speak to our fans."

The boss refused to conceal his disappointment at how things have panned out, as it would have been a very different occasion, had we managed to continue our unbeaten European record this term and lift the trophy at San Mames.

"I think everybody is suffering," he admitted. "That is not a bad thing. It's really hard for the team, the staff, for everybody else but, especially, for our supporters, to lose that final. I think we did everything to have a different result but, in the end, we lost and now we have to forget that and focus on the last game at home, with our fans, and move on. That's important.

"Not just Sunday but in the future, especially in the future, we must use all this pain we have during this season in the last game but especially in preparation for next season."

The clash with Champions League-chasing Villa kicks off at 16:00 BST.
