Team selection plans pondered by Ole

Tuesday 16 July 2019 16:48

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still finalsing his team selection plans for the friendly against Leeds United in Perth.

The boss is keen to give all of his squad playing time during the tour to prepare them for the upcoming season.

David De Gea, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and Romelu Lukaku look set to feature after missing the 2-0 win over Perth Glory at the weekend but Lee Grant and Luke Shaw may not be risked.

Ole has also revealed Dean Henderson, Matteo Darmian and Fred are due to join the party in Singapore, where the Reds are taking on Inter Milan in the International Champions Cup.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is deciding when to make his substitutions during the Leeds friendly.

One of the main things under consideration from the boss is whether he changes the entire line-up at half-time, as was the case in the Tour 2019 opener on Saturday.

"I'm still going to share the minutes around," he told us. "I've got to make a decision on whether it's two times 45, like 11 swaps at half-time, or if we're going 60-30 [minutes]. We'll see how many do feel ready for a game tomorrow.

"We need to get as many players ready for 11 August [as we can] because it might be on the last day that you suddenly get three injuries or illnesses. So we need most of them to be fit. Hopefully, it will continue because, so far, not many have missed training sessions."

United kick off the Premier League campaign against Chelsea on Sunday 11 August at Old Trafford so the manager has plenty of time to find the correct formula for the new season.

Leeds will be the second of six pre-season games being shown live on MUTV this summer. The club's official television channel is available on MUTV.com, the MUTV app, Amazon Fire, Roku, Xbox and Apple TV.
