Welcome to the Ohana with Maui Jim
On Friday 1 October, we held a special event with our official vision partner Maui Jim to celebrate their latest club collection, with a helping hand from some pretty exceptional guests.
Accompanying our former Reds were a mixture of special guests from different spaces throughout the creative world, such as musicians, artists, TV personalities and content creators. The likes of Avelino and Youngs Teflon were in attendance, as well as Love Island’s Lillie Haynes and Michael Griffiths, to name just a few.
After a bite to eat and something to drink in the Warwick and Trafford Suites at Old Trafford, our guests were able to check out the new Club Collection on display and even pop in to a unique photo pod. There was even a virtual try-on filter!
After that, the live panel began and our legends were greeted with a rapturous round of applause. Harry Pinero was tasked with the job of presenting our lively legends and getting their thoughts on the Maui Jim collection on show at the event, as well as stories from the Treble-winning trio’s time at the club and their ultimate starting XI.
The main event was then seeing the legends participate in a live styling session.
The topics covered dove deep into what it was like playing for United throughout the years, with the likes of shared celebrations, player and celeb link-ups, transfer announcements and shirt-swaps all being discussed. It was a terrific insight into how each of our legends experienced the game differently over the years.
When discussing shirt swaps, Yorke explained that during some games, they’d knew they’d already defeated another team because players would ask for their shirts at half-time, sometimes even before the game.
The discussion soon moved on to the best players whom our legends had swapped shirts with, and, of course, some of them aren’t too surprising given the calibre of opposition that United came up against.
Brown explained that Brazilian legend Rivaldo was his personal favourite exchange, while Yorke's was the Brazilian Ronaldo. Irwin then went on to tell Harry and the crowd that he didn’t really swap shirts, and that he’d actually send them back to his mum in Ireland!
Evra explained that he didn’t have any as he didn’t like swapping shirts all that much!
It was a great night all round and a special thanks goes out to Maui Jim for allowing our guests the chance to look at the new Club Collection up close.
Believe us, you won’t be disappointed in it.
The entire collection can be found on United Direct and Maui Jim now. Be sure to check out the vast range on offer and remember to show us your style by tagging us on @weareunited.
