The Debate: What Schmeichel told Simpson about Hojlund

Thursday 10 August 2023 09:22

Walking out at Old Trafford for the first time will not faze Rasmus Hojlund.

That is the belief of Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, son of United legend Peter and international team-mate of Erik ten Hag's new striker.

On this week's edition of The Debate, panellists discussed Rasmus's impact and how he will adapt to becoming a Red.

Former United player Danny Simpson won the Premier League title with Schmeichel at Leicester and revealed that once Hojlund's capture was confirmed, he contacted his ex-team-mate to get a sense of what the 20-year-old striker is all about.

"He was obviously his Danish teammate and he said his mentality for his age is absolutely unbelievable," said Simpson.

"Walking into Old Trafford I just don't think it will faze him.

"It's a lot sometimes for some people to wear the Man United shirt, and I think he's literally going to own it and walk straight in like he's been here before."

"And that's something from Kasper Schmeichel, who has a big mentality himself," added The Athletic's Laurie Whitwell.

"He's not someone that will say that lightly," added Simpson. "He doesn't give out many compliments - I will say that.

"But yeah, he was straight on it and he was very, very complimentary about him."
