Ellen Wangerheim is an exciting young forward, dubbed as an emerging talent of European football when she arrived at United in January 2026.
Wangerheim touched down in Manchester at the burgeoning age of 21 but with over 100 senior appearances to her name already, including one in a UEFA Champions League tie against United, for former club Hammarby.
It was with the Swedish side that her first-team journey started in 2020, and she would go on play a significant role in the club’s league-and-cup Double three years later.
Ellen scored 65 goals for Hammarby, and her form was rewarded with a first cap for Sweden’s national team in April 2024, a year before she made the nation’s squad for UEFA Euro 2025.
While it was reported that the forward attracted interest from top clubs elsewhere on the continent, it was United who secured her signature midway through the 2025/26 campaign, and she would make her debut just two days after completing the move, against Burnley in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
The forward was deployed primarily as a central striker at Hammarby, but can operate out wide too, and describes her strengths as making runs in behind opposing defences, being a hard-working player and combining with team-mates to create goalscoring opportunities.
