Geyse
Biography
An experienced international with proven pedigree on Europe's biggest stage, Geyse is a forward with an eye for goal and superb skill.
Starting out playing futsal as a child in Brazil, her formative footballing years were spent at Uniao Desportiva Alagoana before she signed for Corinthians in 2017, by way of fellow Sao Paulo club Centro Olimpico. After notching nine goals in 27 matches for Corinthians, and representing Brazil at youth level, the striker made the switch to Europe, joining Madrid Club de Futbol Femenino later in 2017. Geyse also made her full senior debut for Brazil in September that year, coming on as a substitute in a 4-0 win over Chile. The attacker's first spell in Spain was a year long, before she joined Benfica in Portugal. Her talent was on full display during her time with the Lisbon outfit, as she netted 42 goals in 21 league appearances to help the club win the title and get promoted in their first season. Geyse's nine strikes in the Taca de Portugal went a long way to securing cup silverware in the same term. Such prolific club form did not go unnoticed by her national team, with Geyse being called up to Brazil's squad for the 2019 World Cup in France. She made two appearances at the tournament. In January 2020, the attacker returned to Madrid CFF and scored five goals in as many games for the Spanish side before the campaign was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The following season, the Brazilian scored her first international goal at the 2021 SheBelieves Cup, in a 4-1 win over Argentina, and then was called up to represent her nation at the delayed Olympic Games in Tokyo. History was made in the 2021/22 season when the Maragogi-born forward became the first South American to win the Liga F top goalscorer accolade, sharing the honour with Barcelona's Asisat Oshoala after notching 20 times across the campaign. Her exploits caught the attention of Barcelona, who signed her in the summer of 2022. In her first - and only - season in Catalunya, she helped the club win three trophies: the league, the Spanish super cup and the Champions League. On 18 August 2023, after representing Brazil at the 2023 Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Geyse signed for Manchester United.
