Antony and Casemiro recalled by Brazil

Antony and Casemiro have earned a recall to the Brazil squad – the first selected by new head coach Carlo Ancelotti.

The Selecao are preparing for World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay in June.

Although Brazil are fourth in the table and look well placed to qualify for next year’s tournament, it has been a disappointing campaign by their lofty standards.

The five-time world champions have lost five of their 14 games so far and the decision was taken to replace Dorival Junior with Ancelotti who, despite being one of the most successful club managers of all time, has never taken charge of an international side before.

Although there is no place for record scorer Neymar, the Italian has opted to bring back several names who have missed recent squads, including the United pair.

Antony has played for Brazil just once since the 2022 World Cup but was hard to ignore following his stellar loan spell with Real Betis.

The winger, who has nine goals and five assists across 25 appearances for the Andalusians, is in Wroclaw this week, preparing for the Conference League final against Chelsea.

Casemiro, meanwhile, will be reunited with his former Real Madrid manager as he joins up with the national team for the first time since 2023.

Our midfielder was a key player in the run to the Europa League final and will be hoping to play at a third World Cup next summer.

He’ll join up with Brazil after returning from the Far East, where he’s currently part of the United post-season tour of Malaysia and Hong Kong.
